Manchester United will tighten spot ID checks to ensure tickets for disabled fans do not fall into the wrong hands.
The club have stressed that their number 1 priority for disabled supporters is to ensure that only appropriate people enter certain areas after a report in the Daily Mail claimed that some fans were guilty of falsely entering disabled sections to watch matches, especially away from home.
The matter was discussed at a recent fans’ forum and United insist they will support the club’s disabled supporters’ association to prevent abuse.
“Tickets in wheelchair sections are always in extremely high demand, particularly at away games, and our number one priority is to ensure that fans who need to be in this section have this option,” a United spokesman said.
“The alleged misuse of these tickets was discussed at our recent fan forum and we will support the Manchester United Disabled Supporters’ Association’s request to implement ID ticket collection as well as more spot checks at away games.”
